Coraline Film Critique

The plot and setting of Coraline is this girl who just moved to a new house and town. She moves into this house where there are 3 other people living. Its a strange house and a creepy, dark place outside. Coraline finds this door where she meets her other family, etc (I don't want to spoil). The main purpose and theme of Coraline was to explain that you should be happy with whatever you have and the life you have because somebody else in the world may want your life that you're complaining about. I thought the direction of the movie was pretty cool! The music was cool too, every time the mood changed the music would change with it. I think a young person would be interested in it because its an animation about a young girl. However, if they aren't big fans of getting a little creeped out, then they might want to rethink the movie and watch the previews to make sure they can handle it. My favorite parts of the film was that a lot of it you didn't expect it was going to happen. It would keep you guessing. I also like the animation of it and the setting. The weaknesses of the film are how it could be a little too scary for younger kids. It is a children's movie so they might get freaked out.

There Goes the Neighborhood....

At the end of the street, there was this house. It was randomly in a field and nobody had lived there for years. People say the house is haunted. Others say that if you walk in the door, you won't return out. They call it the monster house because many assume that the house "eats" people. Silly right? Well my friends and I were walking up towards it, then I stopped because I was starting to get just a little scared. My friends just told me to stand guard so they walked up to the porch and the door swung open quickly. My other friend stopped at the porch so the last one just went inside. All of a sudden the house started shaking and went crazy. It was almost as if the door was the mouth. We ran away as fast as we could....

My inspiration for this story was actually the movie Monster House! That was one of my favorite halloween/scary movies when I was younger so I decided to base my story on that movie. The house was like the one I described in my story.

Custom Vehicle

My custom vehicle put together with these 5 vehicles!

One of the terms I found from the article that are sometimes a problem on a computer that I run into is the contrast settings. When the contrast is low, you can't tell if a certain color is right or you just can't see anything at all! By checking your contrast, you can change it so you can see everything brighter and better.

Magazine Cover

The concepts I used to design my magazine cover is planning in advance. I sketched out how I wanted my magazine cover and just based it off my ideas. I also used inspiration from the magazine Teen Vogue. I wanted to have my magazine a fashion one and I like Teen Vogue so I just got some ideas from it. I used typography by using different fonts so it wouldn't be boring or appealing. I also used different colors in the fonts too so it would catch the eye of someone. This is my favorite project so far because it was really fun :)

Royal Tacos Logo

What I learned from reading the article was to be original and don't use the same cliche ideas everyone else uses. I also learned to not overdue the design and make it simple, but not too boring. The logo can be simple, but still have a cool meaning from the logo. The way you can use the ideas of other legally is by changing it to making it your own. You have to change it to where you can barely tell where the idea was originally from. The top logo is my final product and the bottom was my sketch.

This is my logo in black and white. You can still tell what the logo is even though its not colored. I learned that all you have to do for that is take the paint bucket and switch the colors to black and white and color whatever you want, only with those colors.

Comic Strip

Unfortunately, I didn't get to finish my comic strip because I was thinking too much into it and couldn't figure out all of the tools in enough time. It's important to save some selections because if you delete it but want to use it again, then you can just get it back by going to saved selections. The brush tool was cool and very helpful because I had to paint many different items this time. Hopefully, next time I'll be faster so I can finish my project.

Eddie the Donkey

This was a really cool project to do and it was simple too! I learned how to combine multiple pictures together, which would have helped and made my Thor project way better. I like how I changed the color of the grass from a bright green to a little darker and make it look like a field with dead grass. It was a really cool project to do and I liked learning about more tools that will be very helpful and good in the future to help me make more creative projects.

Movie Poster

To be honest, I restarted my movie poster a lot because I kept getting different ideas. I think I could have done better on this project and I wish I did do something more creative.I layed out my poster like this because I wanted all the characters to be there, but I wanted Thor to be the biggest because he's the main character. Whoever noticed the poster first is going to see all the characters and how Thor is the one that's the biggest because the movie is mainly about him. My sketching kind of influenced my final idea, but not completely. I had a little trouble with quick selection because it left the outlining on the picture, so hopefully as the year goes on, I learn how to fix that and get better at it. but overall, I think I could have done better with my poster.

Color Theory Collage Self Portrait

This project was really cool to do because I learned about how to make a selection of something that I don't want and it disappear. I chose yellow because I'm usually always full of joy and happiness! I can have a lot of energy at times. I also like cheering people up, which is also what yellow does!

Animals, Initials, Masking, & Textures

It was very difficult coming up with an animal using my initials, but I finally found one! I made a camel with my initials M, A, and W. I turned the W upside down to make the two humps on the back. Then the M was used as an outline of the legs. The A was used as the head of the camel. Using Photoshop was a little difficult at first because I never used it before. But when I got the hang of it, it was really fun and cool! I thought it was cool how I got the camel texture into the letters. I look forward to many more projects using Photoshop!
